If you have ever had a bladder infection then you know that pain, you know, the one that makes you want to climb the walls. In that moment you would do anything to make the pain go away. Usually this means either trying an old, not-so-effective home remedy, or taking the time to go to your doctor and get an antibiotic. If you are like many people, you don’t have the time to take out of our lives to go to the doctor for this, and with our overuse of antibiotics it is best to use them only when absolutely necessary. Well, the good news is that there IS a home remedy that will work over 90% of the time! Do I have your attention? Keep reading!
Before I Tell You the Secret, You First Need to Understand WHAT ACTUALLY CAUSES Most Bladder Infections:
Nearly 90% of all bladder infections are caused by the bacterium E. coli! This may sound odd, but it’s actually a normal bacterium that is normal to have in your colon. The problem is when this E. coli makes its way into your bladder. Once the E. coli gets into the bladder it actually clings to the lining of the bladder. It does this because it is attracted to a simple sugar called D-mannose that is found in the lining of your bladder. To make matters worse, the E. coli will reproduce as it feeds on the D-mannose and cause a full on infection. It is at this point when you are starting to climb the walls with a full blown infection. Women are more prone to infection because of the proximity of the urethra to the vagina and rectum, which leads to easier bacterial contamination of the bladder.
So, Now that We Know Who the Enemy is…How do We Kill it?
It may sound counter intuitive, but the key is to give the E. coli more of what it craves….D-mannose! The key is to introduce a mass amount of D-mannose into your bladder to lure the E. coli away from the lining of your bladder. Basically, when this mass of D-mannose comes flooding through your bladder, the E. coli will detach from the bladder in attempt to consume all the D-mannose. Now, here’s the good part…once you urinate the E. coli simply gets flushed down the toilette…literally!
So How Exactly Do You Do This?
To do this you need to buy some D-mannose powder, which is easily found at many vitamin and health stores are follow these steps:
-
- Mix 3-5 grams of D-mannose powder with a glass of water. Take this mixture every 3-4 hours while you are awake. You can also use cranberry juice, which has some additional benefit, instead of water, but be certain that you are using 100% cranberry with no added sugar.
- In between doses, continue to drink lots of water. The objective here is to make yourself urinate frequently throughout the day.
- Infections will clear up anywhere from a few hours to 2 days depending on the severity of the infection.
- If you don’t start to see improvement within 24 hours, your infection may be one of the few instances that are caused from something other than E. coli. In this case you will need to see a doctor for an antibiotic.
That’s It!
So, the next time you get an infection, don’t rush to antibiotics before trying a natural method. Go get some D-mannose and flush out that nasty E. coli! Of course, if you have recurring infections, a kidney infection or some serious urological issues, consult with your physician.
