Exposure to heavy metals can cause DNA damage, disrupt hormones, impair the immune system, and damage neurological function. Since heavy metals don’t easily leave the body they can build up over time unless steps are taken to remove them, including chelation therapy. Heavy metal toxicity can also produce symptoms that sometimes are mistaken for other chronic conditions such as Autism, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, depression, Multiple Sclerosis, and a host of other serious disorders. The world is filled with dangerous metals and toxins, and in many cases people can be exposed to unsafe levels of heavy metals without even realizing it.

Some Signs You Might Have Heavy Metal Toxicity:

  • Weight Gain
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness / Lightheadedness
  • Migraines
  • Digestive Distress
  • Aching Joints & Muscles
  • Depression / Anxiety
  • Menstrual Irregularities
  • Infertility
  • Impaired Blood Sugar Regulation
  • Numbness, Tingling of Extremities

What is Chelation Therapy?

Chelation (pronounced key-LAY-shun) therapy is a series of intravenous infusion treatments used to remove heavy metals (including mercury and lead) from the blood. It involves intravenous injections of a chelating agent, EDTA (ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid), an amino acid. EDTA “chelates” (naturally seeks out and binds) to heavy metals and minerals in the blood so that they can be excreted in the urine. EDTA not only binds heavy metals, it also “chelates” (naturally seeks out and binds) calcium, one of the components of atherosclerotic plaque that causes heart disease and stroke.

What to Expect During Chelation Therapy *

If you suspect you may have heavy metal toxicity, a lab test can be done to confirm the presence of excess heavy metals in the body. During chelation therapy, EDTA is given by intravenous infusion in a regimen that involves a number of treatments over a period of time. The number and duration of the treatments varies according to the individual patient. Symptoms may initially worsen as the heavy metals are drawn out and processed by the liver, but over the course of treatment will improve as the body successfully expels the toxins from the body.
