Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections
Platelet-Rich Plasma in Houston
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?
Platelet Rich Plasma is a concentration of platelets which circulate through the blood. Produced from an individual’s own blood, these concentration of cells are critical for blood clotting. The liquid plasma and platelets of the blood are required for cell recruitment and essential for cell multiplication and cell specialization that is required for healing.
After a blood sample is obtained from a patient, the blood is put into a centrifuge, which is a tool that separates the blood into its many components. Platelet rich plasma can then be collected and treated before it is delivered to an injured area of bone or soft tissue, such as a tendon or ligament.
Benefits of PRP Injections
- Safe and effective on all skin types and colors.
- Enhances facial volume, plumps and fills in fine lines and wrinkles, and can be successfully utilized in the delicate areas around the eyes and mouth, where dermal fillers, lasers and neurotoxins may not be as effective.
- Causes minimal discomfort and does not leave any scars.
- Provides long-lasting results—rejuvenating effects can last anywhere from 9 months to 2 years.
Recovery
Does not require any post-treatment downtime or cause any side effects other than minimal swelling, bruising and redness around the injection site, which typically subsides within 12-24 hours.
The Process
- A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and into a special collection tube containing a separator gel.
- The tube is placed into a centrifuge and spun for 12 minutes to isolate the platelet-rich plasma.
- The PRP is injected back into the patient in the desired location.
- Within 8 weeks, patients will notice significant improvement in skin texture and tone, which will continue to improve until the collagen regeneration process is complete (approximately 3 months after initial injection).
