Detoxification is something that we all should be laser-focused on. I know I am, my staff is and we are constantly educating our patients on the power and importance of detoxifying your body on a routine basis.
Why is detoxification so important? Simple. Because we are overloaded with toxins every single day in the air we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink and the personal care products we use on our bodies.

You’ve probably heard about glutathione, and possibly wondered about it, but haven’t quite figured out it’s importance. I am here to explain the importance of glutathione today because if you’re not including this powerful nutrient in your supplement routine, you may want to consider it.
Glutathione is a natural compound we produce within our bodies. This natural compound, also known as “the mother of all antioxidants”, is one of the most important molecules you need to stay healthy, prevent disease and consistently remove toxins from your bloodstream. However, our bodies cannot keep up with the demands of the amount of toxins our bodies are absorbing everyday. Additionally, environmental factors, such as stress, aging and medications deplete our glutathione stores.
Glutathione, the master detoxifier, is a combination of three amino acids: cysteine, glycine and glutamine and is important for one simple reason: it recycles other antioxidants. What does this mean? Glutathione enables your body to reuse other important antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E, as well as lipoic acid, so that the body can reduce and fight off these free radicals.
The problem is that we are overwhelmed with toxins, which then depletes glutathione, which in turn, reverses our body’s innate ability to fight off toxins, infections and cancer. So we’re stuck in this vicious cycle. We produce glutathione, we’re bombarded with toxins, which then depletes glutathione in our bodies, which in turn, disables our natural ability to fight off these toxins.
This is why supplementation with glutathione is so crucial to your overall health.
Here are eight reasons why glutathione should be a part of your everyday routine:
- Fights off free radicals, aiding in the detoxification process
- May encourage weight loss
- Improves hormonal balance and function
- Boosts your immune system
- Increases your mental capacity
- Improves mental and physical function
- May reduce allergy symptoms
- Supports optimal energy levels
And finally, glutathione has been shown to reduce the risk of developing diabetes, lung disease, gastrointestinal disease, Parkinson’s disease and chronic inflammation.
I, personally, have been taking glutathione for years and notice a difference when I stop. I feel sluggish, am unable to think as clearly and notice I experience more allergy symptoms when it’s not a part of my everyday routine.
Simply put…if you do ONE thing today to help your body recycle powerful antioxidants and protect your cells from oxidative damage, make sure it’s implementing glutathione into your daily vitamin routine.
